Friend and activist, Father Geoff Farrow-a former priest and veteran hand-cuffed himself along with others to the gates of the White House to encourage the lame duck congress to repeal DADT immediately. Please CLICK HERE for more on Father Geoff and why Father Geoff fights!
Constance McMillen, LGBT America’s prom queen, was invited to the Pride Reception at the White House hosted by President Obama.
We hope that this reception will change the conversation, not just be an honor party, but a party where conversations and minds will be changed for a greater good.
According to the Advocate, the White House will hold a reception on June 22 in honor of Pride month. There really are no facts on who is invited, if the President and First Family will be in attendance, and White House staffers are keeping silent.
It is now known that Lt. Dan Choi was arrested after hand-cuffing himself to the White House fence demanding the repeal of DADT. Queerty.com was there to follow the story minute-by-minute.
First, it went according to plan with Choi, HRC, Kathy Griffin, and others. Then Choi went off script even catching Kathy Griffin off-guard by heading directly to the White House to get handcuffed along with Capt. Jim Pietrangelo and the assistance of Robin McGehee of GetEQUAL (formerly of Equality Across America). Kathy Griffin stayed behind with Joe Solmonese of HRC for photo ops. Read more after the jump…
Equaljunction.com’s friend Mayor Mitch Ward of Manhattan Beach, CA is in D.C. at the White House with President Obama. He was kind enough to share these thoughts exclusively with equal junction after the meeting:
“It was a high honor and privilege to stand before President Obama today with the nations mayors. I stressed to the President that we need more stimulus dollars targeted to local cities directly. He agreed and indicated mayors are on the front line of helping him turn our economy around. Listening to President Obama speak of the disastrous state in which the US economy was when he took office and where we are now on the road to recovery reaffirms my pride and confidence in the Obama Administration. I look forward to working with President Obama at the local level and when I arrive in Sacramento so that we can move Manhattan Beach, California and the nation forward toward prosperity again.”
A big thanks from EqualJunction to Mayor Mitch Ward (Manhattan Beach, CA) for sharing with us. He is curently in Washington, DC for the US Conference of Mayors. He welcomes the opportunity to meet you, hear your concerns and share his objectives for when elected to Sacramento. Mayor Ward was the first African American elected in Manhattan Beach, CA. He would be the first openly gay assembly member of the 53rd District in California. He would also be the first African American in the LGBT caucus in Sacramento, a group highly under-represented within all levels of government.
If in DC and want to meet Mayor Ward attend this event this evening:
Thursday, January 21, 2010
Time: 5:30pm-7pm
Where: Veritas, 2031 Florida Ave., NW, Washington DC
