We want a verdict this week… History should be our guide.

February 2, 2010

Segregated water fountains

History only repeats itself if we don’t learn from our mistakes. We are married, and every American should have to the right to do so.  We will accept nothing less than equality for our children’s and our country’s future.  Neither should you.

During this trial we each need to stay vigilant while precedent is being set everyday that may someday may effect us all; especially if this case is appealed all the way to the US supreme court. Be patient grasshopper. Follow the trial on Bilerico, let us know your thoughts.

We wanted to listen again to his words to remind us of all the reasons we fight…we can never forget, and his words are truly inspirational. Expect more with David Mixner in the future here on EJ.

End of Day One, More to Come, Prop 8 on Trial

January 11, 2010

The first day of hearings in the first federal trial over proposition 8 recessed for the evening. Both sides made opening statements in front of chief US District Judge Vaughn Walker. Before the trial started the US Supreme Court blocked the rebroadcasting of the proceedings until the Justices have more time to consider the issues. Why if marriage is so sacred is there a fear of having this debate publicly? Like we need to point out the hypocrisy at play here, ha. Both couples involved in the case took the stand today with more testimony to continue tomorrow. More to come.

Make sure to check out some of our political blog partners and friends like Bilerico.com, they have great moment to moment coverage with a blogger watching the trial live.

New Jersey Has Voted :(

January 7, 2010

NewJerseySad news for New Jersey…Gay Marriage was defeated, but we did learn of some great allies and sponsors for gay marriage…

“Whats love got to do with it…EVERYTHING.  We can change fear to love, hate to compassion, cruelty to kindness.”  -Senator Lesniak

“You don’t have to go 1,000 years to define marriage, you can go to 1967 when a white person (man or woman) could not marry a black person (man or woman) in the case of Loving vs. Virginia”

You can’t change the fact that national companies are defining benefits as same-sex couples who are married.”-Senator Nia Gill

Senator Baroni made some great points too-finally a senator talking about ERISA, which we all know will eternally stand in the way of civil unions working.  Oh WAIT, civil unions don’t have to work, we were married.

Because of ERISA companies that provide their own insurance instead of purchasing larger coverage are then only beholden to federal insurance laws, which we all know does not recognize state based civil unions.  So we need to solve marriage-not rework an old idea of laws.  Civil Unions are todays separate but UNequal government approved parameters and laws like ERISA, insurance and tax laws keep civil unions separate and UNequal.

Think of how insane it was that separate water fountains existed! Marriage is the only solution-marraige for all, congratulations New Jersey.

Less than an hour before the vote the President of the New Jersey Senate President Richard Coder said it was doomed to fail and would not have the support to pass today.  Unfortunately his prediction came true.  21-Nay, 14 Yeh
