Four time Olympic medal winner,Daniel Kowalski, revealed his true self. Here is his own statement about being inspired by other athletes that have come out and his personal feelings on his new chapter in life:
“I just want them to realize that they (other athletes) are not alone, that the feelings that they have are probably quite common and that at the end of the day it’s really OK. There will be hard times but you surround yourself with great supportive people who love you for you and you’ll be OK. Things pop in my head that make me realize that I clearly suppressed these thoughts of being gay … because it was ‘wrong’, as a male it’s ‘wrong’ but even more as an elite athlete. I always knew that I lacked confidence when I stood up on the blocks and I do wonder sometimes if that lack of confidence was fear, fear of not really knowing who I am.On the sporting side, I lost to some amazing champions, so I’m not for one second saying that this is the reason I didn’t win. I often wonder if the lack of self-confidence and lack of identity in many ways held me back from reaching my potential. I look for all the things straight people do, I want to fall in love and be happy and be proud of who I am.”
Again, welcome to the family Mr. Kowalski! To read more CLICK HERE
Are you in Vancouver, BC, Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics?

On February 5th, Brendan Burke, son of Brian Burke-GM for Toronto Maple Leafs, and his friend, Mark Reedy, were killed in a weather related car accident.
Brendan Burke came out back in 2007 to his father and his family. Similar to millions, Brendan was afraid to come out to his father, due to his notorious temper, and also because of his personal college hockey career. When he came out, both his father and his teammates were completely supportive. Later on he became student manager for University of Miami Ohio. His coming out was a blessing said one peer, it reminded them about LOVE and RESPECT for one another.
This is a major loss to the Burke Family, friends, University of Miami Ohio, the hockey world, and the Gay and Lesbian community. We will keep the Burke and Reedy families in our thoughts and prayers.
Remember that scene in the Stallone movie Demolition Man where the characters of Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt were exclaiming their love of the commercial radio station…all commercials and jingles all the time. Well, with all this hype about commercials…
Now, CBS, a channel that has benefitted from Gay actors and Gay storylines is filtering their commercials towards an anti-Gay, conservative audience. WTF?! Let’s take a step back for a bit. What does this say? Are couch spectators more concerned about commercialism than the actual subject of the night? Seems like it! What to do?
Here’s the way CBS should solve this, maybe they didn’t agree with the ManCrunch ad. Its unfortunate for ManCrunch, cause we all know that racy ads sell, and ManCrunch did not re-invent the wheel in regards to sex selling. Their ad was quick, racy, and funny. However, if CBS was going for a more conservative market, i.e. the pro-life commercial, couldn’t they have accepted a bidding for a conservative Gay commercial? Match.com where are you? CBS needs to fix this situation in an equal and neutral manner immediately! It may not be more left, it may not be more right, but it needs to gain good attention and give respect to their ENTIRE audience. Us Gays watch football too!
Ian McKellen wants the world of sports to embrace homosexuality due to the fact that many players are hiding their sexuality. Closeted players are afraid of coming out because they might loose fans and gain jeers from spectators and fellow sportsmen.
We agree! A great athlete is a great athlete hands down! It is prejudice to turn on an athlete because he or she is gay. There are many openly gay athletes who do exist such as Gareth Thomas (Welsh Rugby Player) Martina Navratilova (Tennis Star). We cannot deny they are great athletes!
Sir McKellen(fantastic actor-if we were in the same room, we would praise and say “we’re not worthy!”). He said the following:
“When it comes to the business of simply being honest about who they are, some of them (sports stars) become little shrinking violets because they’re afraid, probably, of being booed from the terraces, and that must be a horrible experience and shame on people who do it. But it ain’t (sic) going to stop someone being a fantastic footballer because they’re honest about their private lives, is it? I don’t believe so and the world is changing and sport, I’m afraid, is very slow to catch up.”
“I don’t know if my life is going to be easier because I’m out, but if it helps someone else, if it makes one young lad pick up the phone to ChildLine (a LGBT teen suicide line), then it will have been worth it.”
Yes, yes, yes. For Wales Rugby Player, Gareth Thomas, it wasn’t an easy revelation, but he knew it was his time. Why is Thomas’ coming out so important to the LGBT community? Click ‘more’
