The parliament of Tasmania agreed to approve of same sex marriages and civil unions of all countries and other Australian states.
attorney general Lara Giddings said, “This is really a small step, but a significant and important step for those people who have registered or been through a civil union process elsewhere around the world and want us to recognise that relationship as indeed being in existence.”
Congrats to Neil Patrick Harris for winning not one but two emmy awards last night at the Creative Arts Emmys. Harris won for hosting the Tony’s and his guest spot on Glee.
Nestor Berchot, only 45, died after collapsing at his wedding. High blood pressure contributed to his passing out and eventually dying hours later. He is survived by his husband, Adrian Garcia. They were one of the first Gay couples to be legally married in Argentina.
For his widow, we wish he could of had longer time with his love Nestor, but he died a happily married man. Our hearts go out to Mr. Garcia, friends, and family of Mr. Berchot.
Nearly 2 years after prop 8 passed, the proposition has been repealed and the STAY IS LIFTED, therefore marriages can commence on August 18, 2010 @ 5pm.
We are married here, we are married now, and no one will stop our marriage. We want to see more of our friends, who are couples, have the option to tie the knot and enjoy the benefits all other married couples do. Separate is NOT equal.
UPDATE: ARGENTINA IS NOW THE FIRST COUNTRY OF THE AMERICAS TO HAVE LEGALIZED SAME-SEX MARRIAGE
Our friend from Argentina informed us of the following…
“Dear friends, today begins the discusion of “marriage for all” on the Argentine congress.
The project was approved and next week will be discussed on the deputy room. If they approved the law, it will go to the senate to be discussed there…and probably, before our Bicentennial anniversary we be the 1st American country to have marriage for all…same right with the same name!”
Our Interview with Former President Bill Clinton. After you watch this, you will notice how out of date DOMA is (now unconstitutional) and how President Clinton’s views have changed since he was in office.
2011 may bring same-sex couples civil unions if all goes well.
According to sources, “The Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Cohabitants Bill 2009 was passed in the Dail on 1 July 2010 and was passed by the Seanad on 8 July 2010 by a vote of 48-4. It will now either be signed by the President or be referred by her in whole or in part, after consultation with the Council of State, to the Supreme Court for a ruling on its constitutionality. If approved by the Court the President must sign the Bill.”
If and when approved, civil unions for same-sex couples will be able to legally commit to each other in 2011.
