Glenn Beck is rallying to ‘give back America to God’… we think God would probably state, who does this guy think he is Beware of false profits! While Beck openly stated that he is actually supportive of same-sex marriage. He still has speakers at his rally that are anti-Gay, such as, sorry to say-the niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., Alveda King who openly stated that she is anti-Gay, even though her legendary uncle’s right hand man, Bayard Rustin, was the co-organizer of THE REAL rally for Civil Rights was openly Gay. MLK believed that justice delayed is justice denied.
Honestly, we don’t feel this rally has any heart, but it seems to be a sad, tangental recreation of a movement that states that we need to take back America. Just because you talk loud does not mean people are going to listen. Talk is cheap.
We can ‘take America back’ by educating ourselves and each other. To teach the correct history, and create a better union, our country can prosper. You know what? Watch a real rally
Father Geoff Farrow is one of the bravest men we know. If you don’t know who he is, take some time during your day to get to know him better. He writes a great blog, speaks publicly, and has rallied for equality. Equal Junction is looking forward to interviewing Father Geoff Farrow on camera. Look for that, and if you have a question you’d like us to ask, contact us here.
Carthage College is hosting a regional conference led and sponsored by Intervarsity.
“After an extensive investigation, it has come to light that the following speaker, Shannon Marion, will be presenting at this conference. Shannon Marion has stated that being homosexual is against God’s design, and therefore it is wrong. This will be at the core of his message that will be delivered to Intervarsity students that are coming from all over Southeastern Wisconsin.”
According to Intervarsity’s website, their purpose is this: “In response to God’s love, grace and truth: The Purpose of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is to establish and advance at colleges and universities witnessing communities of students and faculty who follow Jesus as Savior and Lord: growing in love for God, God’s Word, God’s people of every ethnicity and culture and God’s purposes in the world.” EXCEPT FOR HOMOSEXUALS
Okay we added the “EXCEPT FOR HOMOSEXUALS” however, if both a representative and an organization’s purpose is to educate students to grow love for God and God’s people of every ethnicity and culture, why does it discriminate so openly?
If Mr. Marion is going to use discrimination at the core of his speech, then he already lost his purpose. Is it freedom of speech? Yes, but plain and simple its words of hate.
Thank you Kim for this story.
According to the Racine Post, to join the rally, here is whats going on:
Over the next three days, Carthage students will be standing united against Mr. Marion and his message.
Starting at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, Carthage students will be gathering at the Lincoln statue at the north end of campus to rally as a community united in favor of open dialogue that enables all sides to be heard. Members of progressive communities from Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago will also be in attendance to support the students.
If you are nearby, please join in the rally!
We definitely support the LGBT students and allies in the fight for equality. Go Red Men and Lady Reds!
On December 5th, 2009. Los Angeles Episcopalians elected an openly lesbian Rev. Mary D. Glasspool as Bishop. Glasspool has been an ordained priest for 27 years and is the daughter of an Episcopal priest. This election occurred soon after the ban to keep gays from having a place in the church’s highest ministry was lifted.
Not only is she the first lesbian, she joined Rev. Canon Diane M. Jardine Bruce as the first 2 women elected to the title of bishop in the church’s 114 year history.
In a quiet, beautiful, side street in Lincoln Park, Chicago, just south of Boystown, sits a not so big, not so small church under the goal of welcoming with open arms. A few years ago, we walked in to the 2nd Unitarian’s sanctuary, and immediately an employee came out and welcomed us, showed us around, and we chatted about that one day they will be able to recognize all couples and perform same-sex marriages in Illinois.
We have faith that day will come, its the Land of Lincoln, the foundation of many dreams of HOPE have started on Illinois soil.
Some tend to believe that all churches will exile the LGBT community, however that is NOT true. One of the churches that is ALL inclusive is the United Methodist Church in Hollywood. They are highly in favor of equal marriage for ALL and their hearts and doors are open. For more details, click HERE.
Fun Fact: The basement of the Hollywood Church was used to film the “Under the Sea” Dance in the Back to the Future Trilogy.
What did the Prominent Catholic Bishop say to the Prominent Catholic Politician…No Communion for You!
Personally, as a Catholic, I think this is sad to restrict communion from a parishioner. What is this? Grade School? Ok, we all have our differences when it comes to the serious issue of abortion rights. Of course the Catholic church is going to have issues with Rep. Patrick Kennedy’s support on abortion rights, but churches, and all the wonderful places of faith are supposed to be places of reflection and peace; for the love of all, lets get rid of the childishness and keep it that way!
1/2 of our family is Catholic. I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school for 9 years, and grew up a God Loving/God Fearing Man. I still believe in God to this day.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if this religion that taught me so much love, was able to extend that love again? Let the gays in as gays. I will always understand that there will be people, groups and individuals, who will disagree with who I am (as humans we knit-pick at a person until there is more than nothing left in that person’s being).
My overall belief, the Catholic Church needs to keep evolving. Lets challenge the Catholic Church to adhering its puzzle piece to modern society. Maybe instead of a child going to Catholic School, maybe the Pope needs to go to Reality School (s#&t! I shouldn’t give ideas to VH1).
Challenge: Volunteer at a church or place of faith this holiday season. Think of how many hearts you can change by sharing your love. If there is any intolerance-just keep attending, lead by example, educate equality to your neighbors, intolerance should not stop you from keeping your faith!
