We want a verdict this week… History should be our guide.

February 2, 2010

Segregated water fountains

History only repeats itself if we don’t learn from our mistakes. We are married, and every American should have to the right to do so.  We will accept nothing less than equality for our children’s and our country’s future.  Neither should you.

A Walker’s Fork in the Road

Soon we will hear Judge Vaughn Walker’s verdict of the Perry vs. Schwarzenegger case. We hope that it will be in favor of the plaintiffs, however, either way it will end up in the chamber of the U.S. Supreme Court. With their latest 5-4, right-leaning decision in the case where corporations can fund campaigns, it foreshadows the possible 5-4, right-leaning vote in favor of defining marriage between 1 man and 1 woman. We could be wrong and we hope we are. NO one is going to stop our marriage…our beat will go on. If justice is denied, we will keep fighting.

Brad and Angelina Ask Us to Stop With The Rumor Mill- Remember Our Friends

January 29, 2010

JolieandPittSo we’ve all been apart of the Brad and Angie break up rumor mill. Here is where it stands now, they are together, period. The rumors really hit a fervor when the couple became involved with a known LA super power custody attorney. They are NOT married and met with the attorney to assure their family’s future in the event of a tragedy. This is what responsible parents do, unfortunately this only fueled the separation rumor mill.  So let us as a community give them the benefit of the doubt, especially given that Brad Pitt alone gave $100,000 to fight against Prop 8

We love their public stance on not tying the knot, like in the August issue of Parade Magazine “I have love in my life, a soul mate–absolutely. When someone asked me why Angie and I don’t get married, I replied, ‘Maybe we’ll get married when it’s legal for everyone else.’ I stand by that, although I took a lot of flak for saying it–hate mail from religious groups. I believe everyone should have the same rights. They say Gay marriage ruins families and hurts kids. Well, I’ve had the privilege of seeing my Gay friends being parents and watching their kids grow up in a loving environment.” (jared)

Williams Institute-The Legal Brainpower of Perry vs. Schwarzenegger

January 24, 2010

DSCN3018Since the dawn of Proposition 8 in ‘08, the Williams Institute commenced research and estimated what damage the passage of prop 8 will do overtime.  Prior to it’s passage, Williams Institute hit the ground running by establishing how many couples were married and how many individuals will be affected by the turnout.

California: 18,000 couples = 36,000 individuals

Williams Institute has been the driving force of the trial that is occurring in San Francisco.

Just a Few Facts:

According to Williams Institute and Jerome Cleary, California activist, passage of Prop 8 will, overtime, cost California $800,000,000 USD due to losses of revenue from marriages and various auxiliary services.

Coincidentally, the same year California had to cut budgets to education-just over $1.6 billion over time.  If the Lesbian and Gay community can participate same as heterosexual citizens of California, then our state will have a brighter, more prosperous future. If you don’t get it, our $800,000,000 can really help out that $1.6 billion.

If their estimates hold true, California will get further away from solving the budget deficit that the Lesbian and Gay community CAN assist in solving.  We are citizens too, we are your brothers and sisters who can lend a helping hand. All we ask is to be included in the same rights of others.  Justice can prevail.

Day 5 Prop 8 Trial…

January 15, 2010

Cermak-Ochoa WeddingToday’s topics include children, yikes. We would love to have children one day…when the time is right.  A definite benefit of being gay is that one has more chances to choose when is the best time to start a family.  Though we know many who, due to circumstances beyond their control, stepped up and started a family when a family was needed.

According to tweeters within the courtroom (since we can’t watch the trial) attorneys are pointing out that women live longer and men are more prone to jail-time, violence, and alcoholism. Attorneys from the other side are attempting to argue that with only 2 men or only 2 women as your parents then these chances MIGHT increase of a child being orphaned or living with domestic violence. PREPARING and PLANNING for children in a family decreases the chances of a child living under negative circumstances.  Ask any parent who has adopted a child and they will tell you the challenging and rewarding road they encountered.  It is always worth it, it confirms in them they were prepared to adopt, they wanted to have a child, and they wanted to BE a parent. A fit parent NO MATTER THE GENDER cares, loves, and provides for their child.
