California Has Its Faults

August 17, 2010

San_Andreas_Fault_Aerial_ViewWe went from California Dreamin’ to California Waitin’ again. Hey Gays & Lesbians, you can get married, no you can’t, yes you can, no you can’t. So again the stay is on, and the appealing process will commence in December, and it will take about a year or more to reach the SCOTUS. California needs to stop shakin around, we love that this land gave us the opportunity, but it only gave it for a short time.

Wasn’t it a rule from primary school that if you pulled out a piece of candy during class, you better have brought enough for the rest of the class. So again, Cali has part of the class with candy and part without. Lets get this figured out.

We are married here, we are married now, and no one will stop our marriage. We want to see more of our friends, who are couples, have the option to tie the knot and enjoy the benefits all other married couples do. Separate is NOT equal.

Father Geoff Farrow, a True Leader

April 26, 2010

photo7photo8

We had the pleasure of attending Father Geoff Farrow’s Sermon this Sunday here in Hollywood and the United Methodist Church.  His Sermon was emotional and inspirational.  He unraveled the unique and curious theological history of marriage’s growth throughout the ages, and how it embodies all our, and Creator’s desire, to become a better fully realized self.  Sharing your love makes you a better servant to the Lord, to yourself, and to becoming a better champion of peace for all.

Father Farrow was stripped of his congregation in Fresno, California after preaching against the church’s position to support proposition 8.  His bravery, honesty, and commitment to follow the Bibles teaching of love should have been championed by the church.  He may not have a church now but he surely has a flock now as a leader and crusader for his community.  If you have not read his blog or heard him speak-it is a MUST.  We’ll be posting a video from this weekend within the week. His sermons reflect love, equality, and acceptance of all God’s children, all while challenging your brain-who else can verbally lead you through rabbinical law all the way to the views of Malcolm X? Father Geoff, is a leader for our tomorrow.

A Conundrum for Judge Vaughn Walker

February 8, 2010

CASupremeCourtTalk about upholding the unbiased disposition.

The case Perry vs. Schwarzenegger has an amazing detail that is known as the ‘open secret.’  The man who must make the decision for the prop 8 case is said to be Gay. Justice Vaughn Walker has a personal life that would make one think that his decision is easy, however, as all judges must do, Walker must remove himself from the case emotionally and make judgement based on the proceedings alone. Walker keeps his personal life very private, but talk about checking yourself at the door for this case. Whatever decision he must go with will effect him forever.

The case was assigned to him at random and according to Kate Kendell, the head of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, which is supporting the lawsuit to overturn Prop. 8.“There is nothing about Walker as a judge to indicate that his sexual orientation, other than being an interesting factor, will in any way bias his view.”

Of course, we hope his decision is in our favor; but we ponder, why didn’t he recuse himself from this case? That’s one of the challenges of any judge who takes on a case that is too close to home. He or she must do their job and make decisions that go against their heart.
