We are gathered here today to mark an unhappy occasion. Once again, our community will be assembling signs, holding candles, donning heavy coats, tying our walking shoes, and using our words and emotions to get the rest of the country to listen to the unfair treatment of the Gay & Lesbian community. Our opponents need to listen, its not just about marriage anymore, it never was that alone.
Imagine a person could not visit the love of their life who is dying in the hospital because they do not have the same rights as heterosexual couples.
Imagine a person could not legally protect their family because a majority believes you are not a ‘normal’ family.
Imagine a person who wants to love and care for an orphan who needs a home, but because that person is gay, he or she cannot legally adopt the child who needs a permanent home to grow.
Imagine that person is your own son, daughter, sister, or brother.
To our opponents: You may not agree with how our family works, and we are not asking you too, but we are asking you to wake up. Do you really believe a strong community such as ours is going to sit back and do nothing? We will continue to fight until there is justice for ALL. And remember, that ALL probably includes someone you know and love, just imagine that!
