Little may know that there is a Native American tribe that recognizes same-sex marriage. The Coquille Indian Tribe, located in Oregon is a federally recognized tribe, and in 2008, due to their sovereign nation status, they are able to grant same-sex marriages since they are not bound by Oregon constitution. Two Lesbians (Kitzen and Jeni Branting) led the movement for the tribe and were married in the plankhouse (photo) on the Coquille Reservation.
