California Democratic Convention Weekend-Los Angeles

What a weekend! We were very happy to volunteer for Mayor Gavin Newsom for Lt. Governor for the weekend and it was one of the most organized ,volunteer operations we have participated in! Newsom isn’t just a candidate for the Gays and Lesbians of California, but he is for heathcare, teachers, nurses, jobs, environment, and education! Instead of concerning his administration about K-12, he gears his focus to PreK-16, making sure that everyone has the option to not only have a high school diploma, but a college degree as well. For the good of California, Newsom needs to be able to take his leadership from city to statewide.

Throughout the whole weekend, we met many great leaders, and bumping into friends. One of the highlights was being on the convention floor with each other listening to speakers, and then Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi (pictured right) came on stage and her words were inspiring. Speaker Pelosi spoke about the recent Obama Administration’s healthcare reform victory!

Parties and mingling followed and it was an honor to speak with all the candidates proudly as husband and husband!

A Stroll on the Walk of Fame

March 26, 2010

photophoto2

Today, I went for a stroll on the walk of fame and saw my husband Frank’s boyfriend, Oscar nominated actor Viggo Mortensen in front of the Egyptian Theater. Mortensen was speaking about Dennis Hopper and his achievements as Hopper was beside him awaiting his star. See, when we got married at the Sunset Marquis, Mortensen was staying in the next villa and said best wishes to Frank prior to walking down the aisle. I was on the other side alone.  Grrrrr. Lucky.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, I was all the way in back :(  Hopper is on the left and Mortensen is on the right.

March 18, 2010

An author of 4 best-selling novels, Christopher Rice shares his profound story-telling through thrillers, screenplays, and magazine columns. Rice is an openly Gay man and author who has pride in his Gay followers, and has openly expressed his elation to some of his written characters relating to 1000’s of young Gay readers. Turn off the TV sometimes and pick up a good book! Reading is rewarding!

Our Mayor Villaraigosa

February 17, 2010

Welcoming All My Children to California, Mayor Villaraigosa played himself bumping into the very busy Erica Kane. Villaraigosa probably won’t win a daytime emmy, but welcoming more productions in L.A. will be great for SoCal actors and crew.

HollyWHHAAATTT?

HollywoodSign

So it won’t say Hollywood for a while, well, just until Monday. In order to keep ugly, subdivisions of over-priced homes from popping up next to the sign, the nature conservation group, The Trust for Public Land secured an option from Fox River Financial Resources based in our hometown Chicago.  Problem is that Trust for Public Land only has 1/2 of the $12 million needed to close the sale. Option expires in Mid-April. Hey! Earth needs equal protection too! Stay tuned to see the altered sign.

No Time for Your Pet’s Needs?

January 31, 2010

If you are local to Los Angeles, a wonderful business we use when we have to go out of town, or we won’t be home for awhile is Bon Ami Pet Sitting. First, they come for a quick, low-cost consultation to make sure to meet you and your dog prior to your departure. If you, the owner, are happy with them then you set up days and times! You can rest at ease if you are too busy to tend to your little ones at home.

Church of the Week: Episcopalian Church

December 12, 2009

Episcopal_Shield

On December 5th, 2009.  Los Angeles Episcopalians elected an openly lesbian Rev. Mary D. Glasspool as Bishop.  Glasspool has been an ordained priest for 27 years and is the daughter of an Episcopal priest.  This election occurred soon after the ban to keep gays from having a place in the church’s highest ministry was lifted.

Not only is she the first lesbian, she joined Rev. Canon Diane M. Jardine Bruce as the first 2 women elected to the title of bishop in the church’s 114 year history.

Congrats to them both!
