Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz were a couple who broke many barriers. They were the First Family of Television, first interracial couple on television, and first woman to broadcast her pregnancy. There are many more firsts, but lets take a classic look on the genius that is I Love Lucy which debuted October 15, 1951.
On and off screen, Dame Elizabeth Taylor enchanted the world with her acting, style, philanthropy, and advocacy. When actor Rock Hudson, who was her dearest friend, died of AIDS, Taylor heightened awareness to a then unknown disease. Taylor has raised/given more money to research in AIDS than all of her films gross combined.

Earlier, we posted when singer/actor and former Menudo member Ricky Martin officially came out. Now another member publicly stepped out of the closet as well. Angelo Garcia feels that he never hid his sexuality, Garcia just wants to be honest as a whole. He was along side Ricky Martin in Menudo when Garcia was 10 years old, sexuality never came up as a conversation between the two. Garcia was not surprised by Martin’s sexuality.
We had the pleasure of attending Father Geoff Farrow’s Sermon this Sunday here in Hollywood and the United Methodist Church. His Sermon was emotional and inspirational. He unraveled the unique and curious theological history of marriage’s growth throughout the ages, and how it embodies all our, and Creator’s desire, to become a better fully realized self. Sharing your love makes you a better servant to the Lord, to yourself, and to becoming a better champion of peace for all.
Father Farrow was stripped of his congregation in Fresno, California after preaching against the church’s position to support proposition 8. His bravery, honesty, and commitment to follow the Bibles teaching of love should have been championed by the church. He may not have a church now but he surely has a flock now as a leader and crusader for his community. If you have not read his blog or heard him speak-it is a MUST. We’ll be posting a video from this weekend within the week. His sermons reflect love, equality, and acceptance of all God’s children, all while challenging your brain-who else can verbally lead you through rabbinical law all the way to the views of Malcolm X? Father Geoff, is a leader for our tomorrow.
We were very happy to pose for photographer Adam Bouska’s NOH8 photo shoot. Our official pictures will be out soon, but above you can see our faces with the NOH8 still on it while playing with our dog.
The acclaimed director and producer of Precious, Lee Daniels is a storyteller that directs and produces movies that leave a poignant impact to all viewers. His canon includes Monster’s Ball, The Woodsman, and he is currently working on developing a film adaptation of Miss Saigon. Daniels is definitely a voice of a generation, a father of teenage twins, and a wonderful role model for the Gay and African-American community.
Today, I went for a stroll on the walk of fame and saw my husband Frank’s boyfriend, Oscar nominated actor Viggo Mortensen in front of the Egyptian Theater. Mortensen was speaking about Dennis Hopper and his achievements as Hopper was beside him awaiting his star. See, when we got married at the Sunset Marquis, Mortensen was staying in the next villa and said best wishes to Frank prior to walking down the aisle. I was on the other side alone. Grrrrr. Lucky.
Sorry for the poor photo quality, I was all the way in back Hopper is on the left and Mortensen is on the right.
Deadline Hollywood did a story on an upcoming event called:
Flipping the Script: Beyond Homophobia in Black Hollywood.
This event is co-sponsored by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and West’s Gay and Lesbian Writers Committee and Committee of Black Writers. The evening will be a conversation about topics including positive and negative portrayals of LGBT characters and homophobia within black society and black producers/filmmakers. With a talented panel, this will be a very progressive evening that will enhance the entertainment industry by having a dialogue with these topics.
This panel will occur on Tuesday, March 23rd @ 7:30pm at WGA West.
