Over the weekend, everyone learned about Terry Jones, pastor of Dove World Outreach Church in Gainesville, Florida who will be holding a Quran burning on September 11th. We DO NOT DO THIS! Who does this person think he is? Well, he has his attention. We don’t believe in book burning, especially books that are holy and sacred to others.
Burning books will not reverse September 11, 2001. It will not bring those victims back that died 9 years ago. All of our questions will not be answered. It seems that the only way to move forward is heading in a backward direction??? Time is still on your side Pastor Jones. You can end this act of hate. If we all decided to hold a hate filled ceremony everyday to ‘honor’ a horrible tragedy…there would not be enough days in the year. We would have to extend our orbit around the sun to make the year longer past the planet formerly known as Pluto.
We know, we were not supposed to forget, but the best thing we can all do is move forward knowing we all still have a heart and share one Earth. We can knit pick at each other til we are blue in the face, but truth is the more you fight hate with hate, there’s really not much of a difference between the borders. Follow your good heart. Now that people know where we stand on our love for Elton John; what was going through his mind when he played for the wedding on none other than homophobe Rush Limbaugh and his now 4th wife Kathryn Rogers? Now, lets level the playing field, we have attended friend’s weddings that were between man and woman because they are our friends/family and they have given us huge support. So we are not anti-heterosexual weddings.
But for Elton John who finally got married to his husband, after decades of ‘Is he or isn’t he?’ and finally being able to show the world who Elton John is entirely, even though we knew him for 40+ years, and play at Rush Limbaugh’s FOURTH wedding??? What does this say? Is John just picking up a check for his philanthropy. Limbaugh is very outspoken of how he is against homosexuality and publicly comparing AIDS to Swine flu. Limbaugh will go the distance to get the ratings and the cash.
Who wins in this end? If Elton John will give the $1 million check from Limbaugh to his AIDS foundation, its kind of a nice slap in the face to Limbaugh. But still we are a little startled that John could sit there and serenade a room that honors a man who publicly bashes us.
For a person who doesn’t go by labels, Donna Milo does have pride as a Cuban-American, conservative Republican, Transgender woman running for Congress.
In Southern Florida, constituents will have a new candidate, Donna Milo-a Transgendered woman who was born Ed Milo in Cuba, youngest of 9 and immigrated to the US in ‘64. Ed Milo married his high school sweetheart and had 2 children. Although he was born a straight male, Milo felt from a young age that he was aware of a difference that he thought he only felt. As Milo became older, he was aware of others who have gone through the same feelings and eventually transition. After years of psychological and medical advice, Ed Milo decided to become Donna Milo.
“After I transitioned and became at peace with myself and my life and my body, I’ve been able to give time to the community.”
Milo will be running for the 20th Congressional District in Florida.
“I am immediately resigning my membership in NARTH (the National Association for Research & Therapy of Homosexuality) to allow myself the time necessary to fight the false media reports that have been made against me,” Rekers said in a statement posted on the group’s website. “With the assistance of a defamation attorney, I will fight these false reports because I have not engaged in any homosexual behavior whatsoever. I am not gay and never have been,”

Who is he kidding? Mr. anti-Gay rented a male to ‘carry his luggage’ and tour Europe. There wasn’t a willing assistant to a Baptist Minister such as George Rekers to help him on a trip to Europe? Talk about self-hating. We are going to go on a limb and say he is Gay, he is lying not only to others but also to himself. Rekers said that Gays and Lesbians are “a deviant segment of society”, he even earned compensation to be a witness for cases against same-sex couples adopting children in the state of Florida.

In a place like Florida, where historically equality for the GLBT community seemed a distant dream, a new, openly gay mayor was sworn in for Broward County. Broward County will become one of the largest jurisdictions within the United States to have any openly gay executive in office with a population of over 1.8 million. Mr.Ken Keechl assumed the office and we will continue to follow his time in office.
