Attending a Gay Ceremony

We were excited to attend a beautiful commitment ceremony of our friends in Los Angeles. The weather cleared up for the ceremony at the private Los Angeles Athletic Club. As we entered the third floor we were greeted by many family and friends of the Gay couple. As we entered the opulent, wood paneled rooms, we were amazed by the historic detail of the venue.

When the ceremony commenced, 4 family and friends gave beautiful, heartfelt, speeches each sharing tears of joy and happiness. The grooms dressed in matching brown, well-tailored suits (both of them are good looking, tall, and thin so anything would have looked good on them) exchanged vows and rings each sharing their love and commitment to one another.

We wish them the best and even when its great…it gets even better! The best advice we can give is have fun and make each other laugh, the rest will work itself out.

Celebrating Two Years Together!

October 4th, 2008. We became one and were married at the Sunset Marquis in Hollywood, CA. We cannot believe its already been 2 years, it has moved so quickly, and the politics and environment have done the same. Still, as evident by the recent losses of youth, we have a lot more to do.

We never thought our marriage as an ‘at last’, but a new beginning to be one of the pioneers for the future of our community. Yes, beyond a shadow of a doubt, it will get better. We wish we could have the ears of every LGBT person and say things are going to be just fine. There will be some turbulence, but eventually we will land safely and arrive at a destination where RESPECT will be there to embrace all of us!

Keep on fighting, keep raising the bar, and cope and deal with the obstacles that may come our way.

Being Sick at Home as a Kid These Days

Hey, Marcos here. So my little brother was home sick the other day, poor guy…or not due to Internet, and 1000+ TV channels. There is a large age gap between me and my brother. I’m in my 20s, and he is about to be a teenager (yikes). Quite a different world that instead of phone calls across the country we talk via webcam and Skype. This way we can see each other and not only that but our pets get in camera view as well. Also, he always wants to talk to his brother-in-law, my husband Frank. Its times like this I wish a few things:

A: I was a kid in this technology age
B: Lived closer to home to see them physically instead of WIFI
C: Have others know that my little brother is a special guy who loves me no matter what and loves his brother-in-law just as much (Gay or Straight-he doesn’t care) Like any preteen its “I miss you, I love you, and What did you bring me?”

My little brother is smart, and now that my sister is getting married soon, he will have another brother-in-law in the family!

Hallmark Cards 4 the Family with Heart, Holiday Card Contest!

For a company based in Kansas City, MO there are some progressive policies within the Hallmark Corporation. So we’re sending them a virtual thank you note. Write them a card or email thanking them for their support and encourage them to make more diverse and universal card themes. (Remember by contacting the business that support us, and reminding them why we shop there, they’ll continue to do what’s right and encourage more to join them).

They have received a 100 on the HRC shopping guide and include/provide/recognize their GLBT employees on every level within the company.

Check out the amazing E-card selections: with so many of us with family, friends, and allies all over the world an e-card can be appropriate some times. There are themes for everything you could imagine and funny song e-cards as well. Make sure to check out their yearly package and calendar functions where you can set cards to send later in the year. If your super right brained, like ½ of our relationship, this is a great function for you.

There are great holiday card options this year including some new actually funny cards. We are having a funny Holiday card contest. Send us a digital version of the funniest holiday note you get this year and we’ll post it on equaljunction.

Don’t forget to shop local as well. This may sound like a contradiction to the Hallmark plug above; however, we all shop for cards at the corner store, pharmacy, and on the fly. When we plan ahead, we try to spend less on gifts, and shop at our local bookstore for craft cards created by people within our community. Great resource in Chicago is Equinox on North Broadway, check it out!
