On and off screen, Dame Elizabeth Taylor enchanted the world with her acting, style, philanthropy, and advocacy. When actor Rock Hudson, who was her dearest friend, died of AIDS, Taylor heightened awareness to a then unknown disease. Taylor has raised/given more money to research in AIDS than all of her films gross combined.
In LA on Sunday, many walked for AIDS in the 26th annual AIDS walk Los Angeles, raising funds for AIDS research and hopefully, one day-a cure. Everyone is affected by AIDS. The disease sees NO race, creed, color, gender, sexuality, or age. I remember being a child, and being educated on AIDS. I was very fortunate to have family and teachers who (even in a Catholic school) kept up to date and educated us on AIDS and STD’s so that we were prepared for the future. We were taught that AIDS/HIV effects everyone, and everyone must take the proper precautions as we become sexually active. Walk on!
First of all, we must say this…Elton John is one of THE BEST musicians in the universe. His songs has touched so many, and people all over were ‘Gaga’ over him before there was a ‘Radio Gaga’ or ‘Lady Gaga’.
Now that people know where we stand on our love for Elton John; what was going through his mind when he played for the wedding on none other than homophobe Rush Limbaugh and his now 4th wife Kathryn Rogers? Now, lets level the playing field, we have attended friend’s weddings that were between man and woman because they are our friends/family and they have given us huge support. So we are not anti-heterosexual weddings.
But for Elton John who finally got married to his husband, after decades of ‘Is he or isn’t he?’ and finally being able to show the world who Elton John is entirely, even though we knew him for 40+ years, and play at Rush Limbaugh’s FOURTH wedding??? What does this say? Is John just picking up a check for his philanthropy. Limbaugh is very outspoken of how he is against homosexuality and publicly comparing AIDS to Swine flu. Limbaugh will go the distance to get the ratings and the cash.
Who wins in this end? If Elton John will give the $1 million check from Limbaugh to his AIDS foundation, its kind of a nice slap in the face to Limbaugh. But still we are a little startled that John could sit there and serenade a room that honors a man who publicly bashes us.

Amazing for a show that aired back in 1987, it was very ahead of it’s time. Thank you to the Designing Women family and Dixie Carter for educating their viewers.
In a nutshell, there is not much on the surface for the LGBT community from the Healthcare Reform that was passed. According to the Advocate, “the only related LGBT-specific provision in the current legislation deal with costs accrued by AIDS Drug Assistance Programs when providing prescription drugs to patients. The measure prevents Medicare patients with HIV/AIDS who receive prescription medication assistance from being subject to other prescription drug costs.” However, according to Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) with this passing, it does open doors for future provisions to benefit LGBT’s in healthcare. Read MORE
