‘If What I Did Helped Gay People, then I’m Glad.’

September 8, 2010

2888041253_06985694d9“I’m sorry” Seymour Pine said. Although staying true to his orders, Pine stood behind the raid on that hot night in June 1969 at the Stonewall Inn.

Pine died last week at the age of 91. There are some who would say good riddance, but in 2004 he remarked on the raid and stated that he did not know what ‘Gay’ was about and that he was ’sorry’. Again, here is a point where the lack of education regarding your fellow citizens can start a revolution or evolution that will forever change things.  We would not want to say ‘good riddance’ but more importantly, we could say ‘thank you for your major misunderstanding’. Where would the LGBT community be with out the Stonewall Riots? Yes, there were other communities, such as LA, and Chicago that opened up doors for the Gay community, but the battle in NY is what gained notoriety.

It always takes two to tango in the battle of evolution and due to the loss of a partner, we hope that Pine’s legacy will teach others, especially in the police community, to accept our community as equals. No more prejudice, no more hate. In one of Pine’s last interviews he stated, ‘If what I did helped gay people, then I’m glad.’ To error is human, forgive divine.

Mother Father!

September 7, 2010

globe_west_540Its odd when after a 3 day weekend, the newswires come alive with well basically bad news.

Over the weekend, everyone learned about Terry Jones, pastor of Dove World Outreach Church in Gainesville, Florida who will be holding a Quran burning on September 11th. We DO NOT DO THIS!  Who does this person think he is? Well, he has his attention. We don’t believe in book burning, especially books that are holy and sacred to others.

Burning books will not reverse September 11, 2001. It will not bring those victims back that died 9 years ago. All of our questions will not be answered. It seems that the only way to move forward is heading in a backward direction???  Time is still on your side Pastor Jones. You can end this act of hate. If we all decided to hold a hate filled ceremony everyday to ‘honor’ a horrible tragedy…there would not be enough days in the year. We would have to extend our orbit around the sun to make the year longer past the planet formerly known as Pluto.

We know, we were not supposed to forget, but the best thing we can all do is move forward knowing we all still have a heart and share one Earth. We can knit pick at each other til we are blue in the face, but truth is the more you fight hate with hate, there’s really not much of a difference between the borders. Follow your good heart. We have to research again what is mightier than the sword.

Labor Day Weekend! Drive Safe!

September 3, 2010

gas-300x209Its Labor Day weekend, and for those of you who are traveling by car, please drive safe!!!

The following are corporate sponsors to the HRC and are taking the right steps towards helping us reach equality.

Chevron: Caltex, Texaco, Shell Oil

If there is a lot of competition around, let the owner know why you picked their business… the franchise owners can really pressure corporate to establish better ties in our community.
