Great Neighborhood to Visit This Pride-Chicago’s Lakeview

June 26, 2010

Happy Pride Chicago 2010!

What an amazing neighborhood to visit and live! The charm of the city life with a small town feel-the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago is also known as Boystown, but it’s so much more than that. Cafe’s, bookstores, art galleries, small businesses, and clubs line the streets. It is conveniently located between Wrigley Field and Lake Michigan. If you go this summer (especially for Pride, because its one of the best) stay at a Gay friendly Kimpton Hotel in the Loop, hop the red line and get off at the Belmont stop and head east. It is a beautiful walk and so many lovely shops to peruse. With the support of Mayor Daley of Chicago, this neighborhood has grown to be a go-to place to live and visit. If you are planning a getaway, don’t forget to include Chicago!

Former IL. Senate Candidate, Jacob Meister Launches The Civil Rights Agenda

June 25, 2010

Screen shot 2010-06-24 at 7.09.51 PMThe Civil Rights Agenda will be an educational, non-for-profit based in our hometown Chicago. Jacob Meister, who is a lawyer, wants to educate voters about human rights and non-discrimination. This education will lead to voters electing candidates who will initiate/uphold rights for ALL.

According to Gay Chicago Magazine, “There’s a real shortage of lawyers who will handle these cases,” Meister said. “And most employers don’t realize the breadth of the Illinois Human Rights Act.”

Meister said the Voter Project is aimed at identifying LGBT voters and allies, educating them about candidates and issues and encouraging them to vote.

“To me that’s a labor of love,” Meister said. “It doesn’t matter if they’re Democrats or Republicans. It’s about making people aware of where candidates stand on the issues and turning people out to vote.”

Czech Pride

June 25, 2010

Czech-regions1/2 of our family is Czech and we are so proud that the city of Brno will continue with its Pride parade regardless of the violence it has encountered in the past couple of years. Unfortunately, there are not many supporters for this parade, but the LGBT’s of the Czech Republic will be marching strong with a motley audience.

In a press release the organisers said, “Sadly, there is not only support for the parade. Several counter-events are planned. Among them the illegal gatherings of far right-wing groups.”

Since we have LGBT family in the Czech Republic, we wish them the best and hope they stay safe and stay strong!

FDA Approved New, Quicker HIV Test

June 22, 2010

B0006423 Red blood cellsThe first diagnostic test to detect both HIV antigens and antibodies was approved Monday by the Food and Drug Administration. The new test means infections will be caught days earlier.

“The approval of this assay represents an advancement in our ability to better diagnose HIV infection in diagnostic settings where nucleic acid testing to detect the virus itself is not routinely used,” said Dr. Karen Midthun, acting director of FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. “It provides for more sensitive detection of recent HIV infections compared with antibody tests alone.”

This will be able to detect HIV earlier which will make the person infected aware earlier, get immediate treatment, and reduce the risk of spreading HIV.
