LGBT Person You Should Know-Storme DeLarverie

June 29, 2010

Screen shot 2010-06-28 at 9.08.25 PMStorme-a force of nature, who now resides in Room 609 of a nursing home in Brooklyn. She’s a Lesbian who was there that night working as a bouncer at the Stonewall Inn in 1969. Storme DeLarverie fought for her rights, and is allegedly The cross-dressed bouncer who was first beaten by the police which commenced the riots (that lady was never identified). Unfortunately, Dementia has taken over the 89 year old heroine, but does remember things here and there. DeLarverie remembers being a Jewel Box Revue performer at the famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem. Clearly, if Ms. DeLarverie’s memoirs existed, it would be something to sink yourself into and marvel at this woman’s fight for rights before the fight started.

Even though she was weak on the Pride holiday, DeLarverie had her mind focused to go to the parade. During the interview she took off her slippers and looked for her walking shoes with the intentions to attend, however her body is too weak to participate, but her heart still marches onward. Thank you Storme DeLarverie, you are a true inspiration. To read more CLICK HERE

June 28, 1969: A Film We are Looking Forward to: ‘Stonewall Uprising’

June 28, 2010

41 Years Ago today, the Gay rights movement was catapulted to headlines as brave LGBT’s in New York City, who were tired of being discriminated against, were pushed to far at the Stonewall Inn Bar by the police. Although Gay movements have occurred prior to Stonewall, this one was special because of the multiple days of rioting and triumph our community endured. Thank you to those who were there this night decades ago. We would not be who we are today without your strength.

Chicago Blackhawk Player & His Wife & Children to March in Chicago’s Pride Parade

June 27, 2010

3074089832_f2e8c8043fStanley cup winners, the Chicago Blackhawks will show their Pride on Sunday as Blackhawk Brent Sopel will march with his wife and children in the Chicago Pride parade to honor the late Brendan Burke.

“When Brendan came out, Brian stood by him, and his whole family stood by him, like every family should. We teach our kids about accepting everybody. Tolerate everybody, to understand where everyone is coming from.”

Brendan Burke was an openly Gay athlete and son of the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs who, at the young age of 21, died in an auto accident in Indiana with his friend earlier this year.

Thats our team! Family is your family and you must stand by them and teach each other to love and accept who they are.

Kraft way to WORK, supported the fun!

June 26, 2010

Kraft

Kraft went to the mat to support the gay games when they were in Chicago; even when protest abound… Kraft stood by us, and the protest quickly fizzled.  Now they continue to partner with equality groups and the Gay games to keep the equality rolling.

Tell us your favorite Kraft product? We like mac n cheese with more cheese added to the recipe…followed by a workout.
