Malawi’s president, Bingu wa Mutharika, pardoned a Gay couple who had been sentenced to 14 years in prison after their conviction on charges of unnatural acts and gross indecency.
President wa Mutharika does not support rights for the homosexual community and neither does his country. However, as a humanitarian, he released them with no conditions.
We hope this injustice and international attention to Malawi will enlighten the closed minded citizens of Malawi and other countries that find us’ unnatural.’ We wish the couple Steven Monjeza and Tiwonge Chimbalanga a future with no fear and love.
Yes, the house and senate did pass the bill that will eventually lead to repealing DADT contingent on Pentagon’s review, however Gay and Lesbian service members can still be discharged until then. Right now a Dignity Fast is happening….
According to Dan Choi’s Facebook page, he updates the following:
“Forces are mobilizing for non-violent direct action and civil disobedience in response to the Congressional markups (DADT repeal) and veterans are ready to spend Memorial Weekend in prison. Fasting will also commence. Our simple demands:
Mayor Yury Luzhkov of Moscow refers to Gays and Lesbians as ’satanic’. According to Andy Thayer, who we, a few times, marched with in Chicago, was invited to Moscow for civil rights action due to the 5th year ban of a Moscow Pride celebration. A demonstration will happen on Saturday, May 29 despite the Mayor’s orders.
“For several years, Moscow has experienced unprecedented pressure to conduct a gay pride parade, which cannot be called anything but a Satanic act,” said Luzhkov in December. “We have prevented such a parade and we will not allow it in the future. Everyone needs to accept that as an axiom.”
We wish the pro-Gay activists the best of luck and our full support. To read more CLICK HERE
….Contingent on Pentagon Review. Since this bill to Repeal DADT is now passed, it now must go to review by the Pentagon before the repealing is implemented. So even though a ‘repeal’ has occurred in the House and the Senate, it still has a major hurdle through the Pentagon. Pentagon may be continue to ban Gays and Lesbians from serving openly.
This is good so far, but we still need a concrete positive conclusion post Pentagon review!
Congressional Candidate Scott Withers had Grammy nominated comedian, Judy Tenuta come out all the way to Flint, Michigan to support Withers and bring some laughter to mid-Michigan.
The heckler in SF was GetEqual’s Kip Williams, who was arrested after confronting President Obama at the Barbara Boxer event.
Kip Williams had this to say:
“President Obama’s response was disheartening. As the police detained and escorted me out of the room, he told the crowd that I don’t read the newspapers. Otherwise, he said, I would know that he’s been working with Congress to move on the issue very soon. But I do read the newspapers, and while it is imperative to pass this bill, it just doesn’t go far enough. As long as lesbian and gay servicemembers are being discharged, we still have a problem – and this bill doesn’t tell us if or when those discharges are going to stop.”
