Today, we will participate in the march and rally for May Day!
This day is to rally for immigrant’s rights and this occurs annually on May 1st in Los Angeles. This year will be different for a couple reasons, the LAPD want it to be a safer year, and of course because of Arizona Governor Brewer’s signature of a heinous bill that will racially profile people who are ’suspect’ of being in this country illegally. Since we are a Latino family, it is important to march with our brothers and sisters and acknowledge that our country is made of all immigrants from all over the world. That’s what makes this country the United States of America.
This episode of Cherry Bomb, the ladies tackle speaking up about uncomfortable topics in your relationship. From obesity, to drinking, to sex and how to fix it. Should you tell your friend the truth when she doesn’t feel the need to be cute anymore? What if your girlfriend feels like her appearance isn’t important anymore? And in this week’s question, how would you react when your friend gives you a strange gift of an… ‘intimate nature’?
In a small, coal mining town, thousands of sex change operations happen here. The following CNN story from 2007 follows Monica on her journey to total transformation.
We are very proud that we marched with Deb Mell back in ‘04 in Chicago for equal marriage. We are very happy to have been legally wed in California, but, like Mell, we too would love to exchange vows in our home state of Illinois.
We recorded this on April 25, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, where Father Geoff Farrow spoke on Marriage Equality and other Gay & Lesbian topics. To view his blog, CLICK HERE
In October of 2009, Pepsi contributed $500,000 to support PFLAG (Parents, Family & Friends of Lesbians and Gays)!!!
According to Jacqueline Millan, director of PepsiCo Corporate Contributions, “We are delighted to continue our partnership with PFLAG…(in) promoting the necessary message of inclusion to untapped groups…and that is a crucial step toward building a healthy working environment.”
Pepsi understands the importance of creating a work environment that makes EVERYONE equal.
The ladies of Cherry Bomb welcome one of the lovely stars of the web series ‘The Lovers and Friends Show’, Nicole Pina, to discuss the scary “Future Talk”. When do you bring up the future? How soon is too soon to talk babies, marriage and being together forever? Should you try to change your partner’s mind if you’re on two different paths? And in this week’s surprise question taped poolside from Dinah Shore… do you bring a new lover to Dinah or leave her at home to keep your options open?
Openly Lesbian, Illinois State Representative Deborah Mell will marry her fiance (Christin Baker) in Iowa. Mell announced her engagement on Chicago Public television last night. We wish them the absolute best!
We met Deb Mell one day in March 2004, when we all marched for equal marriage rights (photo above left was taken of us in the protest in March of 2004 and right is Deb Mell’s photo taken that same day). Mell, who was little known then, was arrested that day as we all did a sit-ins in Chicago’s city hall and Washington Avenue down the street from city hall and Daley Plaza. It was a small surprise to the police when they realize the woman they arrested is the daughter of a Chicago Alderman, sister of the First Lady of Illinois, at the time, Patricia Mell Blagojevich and of course sister-in-law of the infamous Governor Rod Blagojevich (now impeached).
According to Mell, she said she would use a point of personal privilege Wednesday on the state house floor in Springfield to spark conversation about marriage equality among her colleagues and the public. “I’m going to talk about Christin, and I’m going to talk about how we have built this life together, and how just being with her has made me a better person, and I want to spend the rest of my life with her, and I want to get married in Illinois”
Norway was the very first country to enact an anti-discrimination law protecting homosexuals.
Since January 1, 2009 same-sex marriage has become legal under what is called gender-neutral marriage. All civil unions and civil marriages became gender-neutral marriages after that date. Talk about EQUAL MARRIAGE! Same benefits and rights for all, even King Harald V of Norway gave it royal assent.
It gets even better…
For families, adoptions are available to same-sex partners. Also, for Lesbian couples, artificial insemination is legal and paid for by the state and the co-habitating, partnered/married Lesbian who is not carrying the child is automatically the other parent once conception has taken place!
Oh hold on…
Gay and Lesbians are allowed to serve openly in the Armed Forces. Way to be Norway!
